(Hartford, OH)…After having great weather for both the Ohio Speedweek and Lou Blaney Memorial events in June and July for the “410 Sprint Cars, Sharon Speedway was forced to cancel the non-sanctioned Sprint Car event for the second straight time on Saturday. The “410 Sprints were scheduled back on August 13 and just like on Saturday, impending storms throughout the evening have forced the cancellation of events. Saturday was also to include the final night of points for the Big-Block Modifieds, Modifieds, Econo Mods, and Mini Stocks, to be cancelled. It marked the seventh rain out of the 2016 season.
With the rain out, Sharon Speedway will crown Rex King, Jr.-Hovis Auto & Truck Supply DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Joe Gabrielson-Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds, Brandon Ritchey-Lyden/Red Line Oil RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, Paul Davis-Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, Steve Haefke-HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, and Steve Walker II-Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks 2016 champions.
Sharon will wrap up the 87th anniversary season next Friday and Saturday, September 16-17 with the annual “Apple Festival Nationals. Friday will feature a complete show for Big-Block Modified drivers that have never won a big-block feature in their career paying $1,700 to-win in the “Johnny Zdelar Memorial. The Mod Lites, Sportsman Dwarf Cars, and Junior Sprints will also run a complete show. Preliminary action will take place for the RUSH Late Model and Sportsman Modified Touring Series, Renegades of Dirt Modifieds, Penn-Ohio Stock Cars, Econo Mods, and Mini Stocks. Then on Saturday, the Big-Block Modifieds are back for the “Russ King Memorial for the Mod Tour along with the completion of the show for those divisions that ran heat races on Friday. Racing begins early at 6 p.m. both days.
