KRUMMERT DOMINATES BIG-BLOCK MOD OPENER; MOLLICK 3-FOR-3 IN RUSH SPRINTS; STIFFLER (STOCKS), GABRIELSON (ECONO MODS) & LONGWELL (CROWN VICS) ALSO WIN

June 21, 2025

(Hartford, OH)...After losing three special events in the last four weeks due to Mother Nature, Sharon Speedway returned to action on Saturday night with the first "Steel Valley Thunder" show of the 2025 season as summer-like conditions finally greeted fans and race teams. Celebrating in the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Victory Lane were Garrett Krummert (Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Big-Block Modifieds), John Mollick (RUSH Sprint Cars), Scott Stiffler (Gibson Insurance Agency Pro Stocks), Joe Gabrielson (Alcon Mechanical Econo Mods), and Coleton Longwell (Crown Vics). It was Gault Heating & Cooling, Hovis Auto & Truck Supply, and Sara Cipriano of Novus Home Mortgage Night as 94 cars filled the pit area.

Garrett Krummert passed Kyle Fink on lap two and it was lights-out in the 25-lap Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Big-Block Modified feature. Krummert drove an impeccable race through lapped traffic as he went unchallenged beating Northeast standout Erick Rudolph by 9.471 seconds in the non-stop affair timed in 7:46.208! Krummert, who lapped up to sixth place, earned $2,000 in the first appearance of the season by the ground-pounders as it was his first divisional win at Sharon since June 3, 2023.

“When they watered the race track I figured we’d have to run around the top,” explained the 37-year-old West Middlesex, Pa. resident. “We weren’t very good here last year. I really enjoy coming here as it always races really, really good. Anytime you can beat the 25 car (Rudolph) I’m pretty happy. I really wasn’t sure where he was at. I can’t believe 25 laps and no cautions. We made the right calls tonight, the car was really good, and the track was great.”

The victory was just Krummert’s third of his career in the Big-Block Modifieds at Sharon to go along with 11 in the RUSH Sportsman Modifieds and came in his M&D Landscaping/Colonial Companies/Curtiss-Wright/Dig-sponsored #29. Rudolph, who went undefeated in 2024 at Sharon with three wins in three tries, went fifth to second. Rex King, Jr. was third. Ayden Cipriano was fourth after starting eighth. Fink dropped to fifth. Sixth through 10th were Will Thomas III, Dave Murdick, Colton Walters, Rick Regalski, Jr., and Steve Slater. Mike Kinney earned the $100 Summit Racing Equipment Hard Charger gift card for going 19th to 12th. Heat victors over the 21-car field were Fink, Krummert, and King.

John Mollick overtook Zach Morrow on lap 12 and fended off Arnie Kent for the second straight race to win the 20-lap RUSH Sprint Car feature. Mollick is now three-for-three in 2025 at Sharon and has won six of the last seven features at the Hartford, Ohio oval dating back to last season. Ironically, Mollick remains winless in RUSH Billy’s Garage Weekly Series circuit outside of Sharon and had never won in the division at the Hartford, Ohio oval prior to his hot streak.

“This place is slick,” stated the 54-year-old Toronto, Ohio standout. “I never thought it would be this slick after the Crown Vics- I’m shocked. We changed the car all around and I’ll be the first to admit that we got lucky. I learned that Ruhlman line- Chad showed me where it’s at; bide my time and roll around the corners. Early on in the race that top was too wet and some guys worked it in halfway through and that’s where you needed to be.”

Mollick, who started third, upped his all-time win total at Sharon to seven, which includes a Big-Block Modified victory. Mollick’s 21st overall RUSH Sprint Car win around the circuit came in the McFadden Machine/Willy’s Car Wash/Rae Lynn Enterprises/Spring Church Car Wash/JET Engines, Scott Clever-owned #4J. Luke Mulichak was third. RUSH’s points leader, Gale Ruth, Jr., was fourth after starting seventh. Morrow dropped to fifth after leading the first 11 laps. Sixth through 10th were Ricky Tucker III, Zack Wilson, Trent Marshall in his season debut, Cooper Fritz, and Brandon Shughart. Heat race winners were Morrow, Kent, and Mollick. The 24-car field was the highest since August 19, 2023.

Scott Stiffler ripped around New York invader Andrew Hammond on the outside of lap 11 and led throughout the second half of the 20-lap Gibson Insurance Agency feature to nail down his first Pro Stock win since September 2, 2022. While the win was just Stiffler’s second in a Pro Stock, the veteran racer upped his all-time win total at Sharon to 22 thanks to 20 in the UMP Modified division.

“He (Hammond) kept running mid-to-low and I figured the only place to go was up top where (Garrett) Krummert killed them,” explained the 55-year-old Farmdale, Ohio veteran. “I decided to go up there and finally got by him. It feels good to be back here in victory lane as It’s been a minute.”

Despite starting on the pole, it was Hammond that led the first half of the event before Stiffler regained P1. Stiffler took the checkered flag first in his Bala Management/Wedge Motorsports/Close Racing Supply/Integra Fab/Cyndi’s Custom Creations-sponsored #14 by just 0.258 seconds, which also earned him the $100 Performance Bodies Nosed Out gift card. Hammond was second in his second career Sharon visit. Steve D’Apolito was third over Curt J. Bish and RUSH Sportsman Modified regular Dalton Gabriel. Completing the top 10 were Trevor McCann, Jamie Scharba, Paul Davis, Jason Jones, and Larry Kugel. Copping heat race victories were Bish and D’Apolito.

Veteran UMP Modified racer Joe Gabrielson earned his third career win in the Econo Mod division since stepping down into the class in 2024. Gabrielson took the top spot away from Dennis Dellinger on lap three and led the rest of the way in the 20-lap Alcon Mechanical feature as he’s now failed to finish worse than second in his four Econo Mod starts over the past two seasons! Gabrielson earned $600 due to more than a full field of cars on hand.

“It was a little war of attrition out there- I’m glad I started third,” expressed the 37-year-old Bristolville, Ohio racer. “The track has some character to it now; I like it but for people that aren’t used to driving these things it makes it a little rough as they get radical. It worked out for us. I was happy to get by (Brendan) Warner. He’s a very good wheelman for being 19 and has a long road ahead of him. He’s going to be knocking down some wins. My buddy Eddy was telling me to take the top, but it was really rough so I went back down to the bottom. I have to thank mom and dad for getting me started. This marks 20 years so I’m glad to knock one off this year.”

Gabrielson’s 12th career overall victory at Sharon came by a margin of 1.828 seconds in his #58 over northern invader, Brendan Warner. Jeremy Double, the division’s all-time winner, was third over opening night winner, Garrett Calvert. Carter Bidwell’s fifth was a career best at Sharon after starting 19th! Sixth through 10th were Cody Stronghart, Seth Brenot, Don Watson, Bobby Robinson, and Derrick Randolph. Heat winners over the big 30-car field were Warner, Jacob Eucker, and Ty Rhoades, while Bidwell won the last chance B main.

Coleton Longwell will go down in history as the first ever winner in the Crown Vic division at Sharon. Longwell, who has competed in recent years in the Pro Stock and Econo Mod divisions, started seventh and made the winning pass on lap three. Longwell then dominated the remainder of the 12-lap event in is #7 winning by 7.084 seconds

“This car was $800 and was drug out the weeds and didn’t run yesterday,” revealed the 24-year-old Kinsman, Ohio racer. “This car runs good. A big thanks to everyone that came to the shop last night; we were there until midnight changing the oil and getting it running again.”

Longwell now has two career Sharon victories thanks to a Pro Stock victory on July 31, 2021. Ed Vogel, who won the lone heat race, went fourth to second. Early leader Brady Chabol was third as Quinten Beeman, Brian Krepps, Elyn Wickham, and Brandon Albert completed the field.

Coming up next Saturday (June 28) will be another five-division “Steel Valley Thunder” program. The night will be highlighted by “Ray’s Race” for the Pro Stocks along with the RUSH Sprint Cars, RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, Econo Mods, and Crown Vics. Race time is 7 p.m.
