$2000 TO-WIN “RAY’S RACE” FOR PENN-OHIO PRO STOCKS HIGHLIGHTS SATURDAY’S SHOW AT SHARON; RUSH SPRINTS, RUSH MODS, ECONOS & CROWN VICS ALSO IN ACTION

June 25, 2025

(Hartford, OH)...Sharon Speedway will look to complete its second straight “Steel Valley Thunder” program this Saturday night (June 28) as the 96th anniversary season rolls on. The event will feature the Gibson Insurance Agency Pro Stocks for the Penn-Ohio Touring Series in “Ray’s Race” along with the non-wing RUSH Sprint Cars, HTMA/Precise Racing Products RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, Alcon Mechanical Econo Mods, and the Crown Vics. Race time is 7 p.m. It’s Virgile Iron & Steel Night.

The Willy’s World Kids Club presented by MillCraft Barns will include a driver autograph session from 5-5:30 p.m. followed up by driver and fan engagement activities from 5:30-6 p.m. Featured drivers include Michael Miller (Stocks), Wyatt Long (RUSH Sprints), Jackson Kristyak (RUSH Mods), Bryan Wagner (Econo Mods), and Makenzie Gracey (Crown Vics). Willy’s World is a non-profit organization dedicated to educate, support, guide, and provide resources to families and children with hidden disabilities, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.

For the second time, "Ray's Race" will take place at Sharon for the Gibson Insurance Agency Pro Stocks in a Penn-Ohio Touring Series event. "Ray's Race" honors the late Ray Virgile of Oil City, Pa., who was a longtime supporter of auto racing in the region and specifically the Pro Stock division. The seventh annual event will pay $2,000 to-win, $150 to-start (complete payoff below)!

There has yet to be a repeat winner in the six previous events. Tyler Dietz won his first career Sharon feature in the 2023 event. Last year’s event was unfortunately rained out twice and was unable to be completed. Past "Ray's Race" winners include Chris Schneider (2022 at Tri-City), Curt J. Bish (2021 at Tri-City), Noah Brunell (2020 at Tri-City), Tim Bish (2019 at Mercer), and Andrew Gordon (2018 at Tri-City). Will there be a seventh different winner on Saturday!?

The Pro Stocks have completed two events thus far this season. On May 10, Chris Schneider scored his 19th career victory, which moved him into a tie for eighth place on the division’s all-time win list. This past Saturday night saw former UMP Modified standout Scott Stiffler win for just the second time in a Pro Stock. The Penn-Ohio Touring Series has also completed two events with Bobby Whitlijng leading the points over Tim Bish.

The non-wing RUSH Sprint Cars will make their fourth appearance of the season. The RUSH Sprints competed on May 17, June 7, and June 21 as defending Series Champion John Mollick is a perfect three-for-three. Mollick, who has one career Big-Block Modified victory at Sharon, has now won six of the last seven RUSH Sprint races at the track dating back to last season after being shutout at Sharon in prior seasons. Those victories though remain Mollick’s only ones of 2025 on the circuit as Gale Ruth, Jr. also has three victories and Blaze Myers two. Ruth leads the $5,000 to-win Billy’s Garage Weekly Series points in search of his first title.

The HTMA/Precise Racing Products RUSH Sportsman Modifieds will make their third appearance of the season on Saturday night. The RUSH Mods were also part of the May 17 and June 7 programs where defending Series Champion Chas Wolbert won both shows. Wolbert’s upped his all-time division leading tally to 24 at Sharon and 57 overall across the circuit in his career. Wolbert also won the only other two races completed to date on the circuit in the rain-plagued season as he leads both the $3,500 to-win Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Weekly Series and the $1,000 to-win “Route 7 Rumble” Series points.

Like the Stocks and RUSH Mods, the Alcon Mechanical Econo Mods also have only completed two events this season. The May 10 opener saw Garrett Calvert score his third career win, while Joe Gabrielson did the same last Saturday night. Both drivers earned $600 as there were 25 cars on hand for the opener and 30 last Saturday night! That same payoff will be a possibility if there are 24 or more cars signed in this Saturday night.

Rounding out the big five-division program will be the new Crown Vic division. Saturday will be the second of five scheduled events for the 2025 as Coleton Longwell made history last Saturday night winning the first ever event at the track. The Crown Vics will return on July 19, August 9, and August 23. The rules are available at the following link: https://www.sharonspeedway.com/downloads/get.aspx?i=1061848. For tech questions, contact Rick Robinson at 724-893-6898.

Summit Racing Equipment will present the hard charger award on Saturday night to the Pro Stocks. The driver that passes the most cars in the feature will receive a $100 Summit gift card. In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker will be the driver that finishes highest in the feature.

The Performance Bodies "Nosed Out" program will award a $100 Performance Bodies gift card redeemable only at Wedge Motorsports to a driver in the Pro Stocks or Econo Mods. The recipient amongst those competing divisions will be the driver that most closely beat out another competitor for any finishing position on the lead lap. Tiebreaker will be the driver with the best finishing position.

There is no Sharon registration fee. One-way driver radios are mandatory; channel 454.000. AMB/MyLaps transponders are required; rentals available for $25. If you have yet to register for the 2025 season, please bring the registration form with you completed https://www.sharonspeedway.com/downloads/get.aspx?i=1006835

Fans can not only experience viewing from the frontstretch and backstretch grandstands, but also from the infield fan zone, which includes concessions and restrooms. Sharon is the only track in the area to have viewing from the unique infield perspective. There will be times throughout the night when fans can cross on the frontstretch back and forth.

The pits will be open throughout the afternoon with passes going on sale at 4 p.m., while general admission opens at 4:30. The drivers meeting will be at 6:15 p.m. followed by Sprint engine heat. Group qualifying for the Stocks is scheduled for approximately 6:40 p.m. followed by racing.

Grandstand/fan zone admission for those 14 and over is $15, while senior admission is $13. Patio seating upgrades are just $10 and fan suite seating upgrades are just $20 over the cost of general admission. These can be upgraded on race night at the track office. As always, children under 14 and parking are always FREE. Pit passes are $35. As a reminder, coolers nor outside food or beverages are not permitted.

There will be NO racing over the Independence Day holiday. Racing will return in a big way on July 11-12 when the World of Outlaws Late Model invade for two complete shows.
