KING ENDS 2-YR WINLESS DROUGHT IN BIG-BLOCK MODS; LONGWELL TOPS 36-CAR ECONOMOD TOUR; #5 FOR WOLBERT (RUSH MODS); CAREER 1ST WINS FOR HARVEY & MOON

By Mike Leone

August 23, 2025 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Hartford, OH)...Sharon Speedway completed its fifth program of a busy month of August on Saturday night for the final "Steel Valley Thunder" show of 2025. Celebrating in the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Victory Lane were Rex King, Jr. (Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Big-Block Modifieds), Coleton Longwell (Alcon Mechanical Economod Mania Tour), Zain Harvey (UMP Modifieds presented by A&MP Electric), Chas Wolbert (HTMA/Precise Racing Products RUSH Sportsman Modifieds), Jacob Moon (Crown Vics), and Wally Stock (Vintage Modifieds). The "Open Wheel Clash" was presented by Sara Cipriano at Novus Home Mortgage and A&MP Electric. It was Free Hot Dog Night presented by Sysco Foods.

Rex King, Jr. ended a two-year winless drought at Sharon by putting on an impressive drive from the 10th starting spot in the 25-lap Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Big-Block Modified feature. King had to pass veteran standouts such as Brian Swartzlander, Jim Rasey, Garrett Krummert along with invaders Erick Rudolph, Noah Walker, and finally Dalton Slack with seven laps to go to score the $2,000 victory. Ironically, King's last win at Sharon was the same event/weekend in 2023 (August 26).

"I was telling Will Thomas (track owner and racer) earlier today that I would like to win one of these here as it's been awhile," acknowledged the 34-year-old Bristolville, Ohio driver. "We had a lot of success when we raced here every week then they put the new clay on and we haven't been here every week since so we had to get it figured out. We've been damn fast but whenever you start eighth on back and you have guys like Krummert, Rudolph, and Slack it's hard to pass because they're really good and really fast. I searched all over and figured we didn't have much to lose so I rolled the center and kept the momentum up and it worked out."

Slack, who won $4,1000 in the "Lou Blaney Memorial" and then finished third in the Super DIRTcar "Steel Valley 75" for $2,500 earlier this month, took off in the lead, while Krummert made a four-wide move on the topside of turn two on the opening lap to grab second. Following a pair of cautions with one-lap scored, fifth starting Rudolph moved past Krummert for second. Walker then slipped under Krummert for third on lap four.

Slack had a lead of 0.750 seconds when he caught lapped traffic on lap nine. Rudolph closed in the ensuing laps and the two raced side-by-side on laps 12-14. Rudolph made the pass for the lead on lap 14, but a caution negated the pass and turned out to be a killer for Rudolph. When racing resumed, King took over third from Walker then went after Rudolph. The two traded the second spot back and forth from laps 15-17 with King getting by for good on lap 17.

King would make his winning move on lap 18 driving around Slack. Slack tried to regain the lead on lap 19 as the duo raced side-by-side, but King withstood the pressure and led the rest of the way taking the checkered flag first by 0.730 seconds. It was King's 29th career win in the KMB Inc-owned, Barris Trucking/RD Banks/Midway Chevy/King Bros/King Sanitary/Bristol Disposal/Reese Services/Jim Brown Seed Sales/Cedar Steel-sponsored #165.

Slack earned $1,200 for runner-up as it was the third podium and fourth top 10 finish in four starts for the Canadian this month at Sharon! Rudolph was third over fellow Empire State racer, Walker, who made his first appearance in more than two years. After challenging for the lead early, Krummert faded to fifth at the finish. Swartzlander was sixth. Jeremiah Shingledecker went 17th to 7th to earn the $100 Summit Racing Equipment Hard Charger gift card. Ayden Cipriano, Kyle Fink, and Steve Feder completed the top 10. Heat winners over the 24-car field were Cipriano, Rudolph, and Krummert.

Coleton Longwell has been having an impressive season at Sharon. Longwell entered 2025 with just one career win at the track in the Pro Stock division back in 2021. Longwell won the debut of the Crown Vics on June 21 and already won the first two Econo Mod victories of his career this season. On Saturday night, Longwell won the biggest race of his career capturing the $1,200 Economod Mania Tour victory in the 20-lap Alcon Mechanical feature as a huge field of 36 cars were on hand!

"This is my biggest one yet in the Econo Mods," acknowledged the Kinsman, Ohio driver who turned 25 on Friday. "I thought I crashed three times; I climbed it (fence) twice, but all in all we were pretty good up there. I could feel the tire going at the end. It was hard to get past Jake (Eucker)- that's his wheelhouse and he's really good up there. There wasn't a whole lot left up there and you had to get within an inch or two the whole time to get anywhere. I'm happy with this car and everyone ran pretty good and caution-free for the most part."

The improving Carter Bidwell led the opening lap until Jacob Eucker made the pass for the lead. Following a restart with three laps scored, Longwell took over second from Bidwell on the restart. Longwell went after Eucker and the duo battled side-by-side for the lead on lap five until a caution slowed action.

When racing resumed on lap six, Longwell made the winning move. Brendan Warner, who won his first career Sharon race on July 19, started fourth and moved past Eucker for second on lap seven. Longwell had to deal with lapped traffic on lap 14 and a caution that set-up a double-file restart with four laps to go in order to make his way to victory lane.

Longwell's fifth career overall Sharon victory came by 1.097 seconds over Warner in his Wedge Motorsports/Close Racing Supply/Dave Baird Racing Enterprises/955 Automotive/YeagerBaum’s Bar & Grill/Yeager’s Poured Silver-sponsored #7. Ty Rhoades went ninth to third over Dennis Lunger, Jr. and Zack Eller. Early leaders Eucker and Bidwell dropped to sixth and seventh respectively at the finish.

Nate Arp went 13th to 8th in his season debut as Bryan Wagner and Jeremy Double completed the top 10. Derek Tessean beat out Bobby Robinson by just 0.020 seconds for 19th to earn the $100 Performance Bodies gift card for the "Nosed Out" contingency. Bryson Hill set fast time overall in qualifying with a lap of 18.365. Heat winners were Warner, Eucker, Longwell, and Bidwell, while Travis Carothers and Tessean captured the last chance B mains.

The UMP Modifieds made their second and final appearance of the 2025 season and it was Zain Harvey scoring the upset victory. The 2024 RUSH Pro Mod Champion is in his rookie season of UMP racing and scored a convincing first career victory in the division and a first ever at the track in just his second appearance. Harvey led all 20 laps of the A&MP Electric feature and earned $1,000.

"This is pretty cool," expressed the Bradford, Pa. driver who turned 20 on Friday. "I had a tough time in the beginning of the year getting used to it, but we made changes and it seems to be working out pretty well. The car was great all around. After the heat (race) I was telling my guys this place is super tricky, but we got it around there in the feature and this is awesome!"

Joel Watson, who is the winningest active UMP Modified driver at Sharon with 30 victories, was on the pole, but it was Warner taking off in the lead. After an opening lap accident, the 20 lapper went green-to-checkered. Harvey pulled away at the halfway point while a tremendous three-car battle for second took place between Nate Young, Joe Gabrielson, and Dustin DeMattia.

When the checkered flag waved, Warner had a winning margin of 3.336 seconds in the Craig Switzer-owned, Switzer Services/Taylor & Armstrong Paving & Sealing/Beaver Trucking/Burtville Enterprises/Chestnut Hill Outfitters/Fran Harvey Investment Innovations/C.E.S. Storage & Rentals/Carpy's Print Company-sponsored #22. Harvey became the 64th driver all-time to win an E-Mod feature at Sharon.

Young beat out eighth starting Gabrielson and DeMattia for second. Jeremy Holbrook was a career best fifth. Watson dropped to sixth edging out his cousin Bud Watson, who started 10th. Vinnie DePizzo was eighth over Andrew Beatman from 14th and Chris Basich. Nathon Loney and Young won the heat races over the 19-car field.

Chas Wolbert continued his dominating season in the RUSH Sportsman Modifieds. Wolbert started sixth in the 20-lap HTMA/Precise Racing Products feature and led all but the opening lap as he went on for his fifth win in seven tries this season at Sharon. Wolbert also already tied his season best win total from 2021 of 13 victories on the circuit. Eligible RUSH Mod racers shared $15,000 of valuable product giveaways in their annual "Manufacturers Night" presented by MSD Performance. Also, all competing drivers received an extra $25 from Jerry Schaffer Racing.

"I'm happy all the time but it feels good when we're here and I'm thankful for it," expressed the 31-year-old driver. "We have a good car again. The track was pretty cool. JC (Boyer) is my good buddy, but he knows how it goes. I told him I'd give him 19 laps, but we had a good restart. There was traction in the middle and once I got the lead I moved down. Thank you to all of the track crew and Sharon Speedway for having us."

Boyer led the opening lap before a caution that saw Karston King get into Friday night's Raceway 7 winner, Kole Holden, which sent Holden spinning and collected three other cars. King was sent to the tail. Wolbert then inherited second for the restart. When racing resumed on lap two, Wolbert used the outside to maneuver past Boyer for the winning move.

The final 19 laps went green-to-checkered as Wolbert’s Alcon Mechanical/CT Wolbert Trucking/Ohio Intra Express/Dunkin of Warren/Y-Town Powder Coating/Russ King Racing/Scoville Designs/Race 1-sponsored #c3 took the checkered flag first by a commanding 5.193 seconds over Boyer for his all-time division leading 27th career win at Sharon and 67th overall on the circuit.

Darin Gallagher had went seventh to third and pressured Boyer beginning on lap eight. The duo raced side-by-side at several different intervals, but made contact late in the event which caused front-end damage for Gallagher. Gallagher tried limping home the Jerry Schaffer-owned #23, but would lose third and fourth to brothers Doug and Jacob Rutana on the final lap. Gallagher was able to cross the finish in fifth edging out 10th starting Dalton Gabriel. Holden came all the way back to finish seventh as Jackson Kristyak, Todd English, and newcomer Caden Petry completed the top 10. Holden and Wolbert won the heat races over the 19-car field.

Making just his second career start, Jacob Moon became a first time winner in the Crown Vic division. Moon passed Brad Shaffer, who was also making his second start, on lap eight and went on to victory in the 12-lap feature. Moon became the fourth different winner in five races this season.

"This is just my second time out," revealed the 36-year-old Warren, Ohio driver. "My cousin Brandon bought this car and said I could drive it so I gave it a whirl. I was surprised I got to start first in both the heat race and feature, but the first round in the heat race didn't go so well but we made up for it."

Moon's Alcon Mechanical/BTC Construction-sponsored #309 took the checkered flag first by 1.505 seconds over fourth starting Brandon Albert. Shaffer dropped to third after leading the first seven laps. Brian Krepps, who is the only repeat winner this season, was fourth over Makenzie Gracey. Newcomer Mike Matta was sixth. Albert won the heat race.

There will be no racing at Sharon until the final event of the 96th anniversary season on Saturday, September 27 when the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars visit for $12,000 to-win. They will be joined by the Alcon Mechanical Econo Mods. Tickets are available through the WoO: https://mpv.tickets.com/?agency=WRG_SNG_MPV&orgid=52711&pid=9489417.
